P4: Create production materials to be used in the original media product

Evidence of using equipment

Due to working in a pair, in the planning process, my partner and I made sure that we split the shots equally, so that we both filmed the same amount and are able to discuss and speak about our role, rather than relying on one another to do majority of the effort. With me, I filmed the teaser scene shots in the ‘control room’ as I was acting in the conference room shots, and we split the shots for the green screen. Trying to get a shot for evidence in the ‘control room’ was quite hard due to the lights being at a low level, however, I was able to get my partner to take this shot of me recording footage next to the green screen:

We made sure that when it came to setting up the equipment, it was done in an efficient and safe manner, so that we don't harm anyone, disrupt the surroundings or break the equipment itself. The camera needed to be placed on top of the base plate and tripod securely so it doesn't fall off and get broken and when we need to move the camera and tripod to shoot a different shot at a different angle and/or position, it is vital that we moved it safely and securely. In the control room, we used gels to create the colour of the set this was done with a blue gel, this allowed the image to be visibly different because we were filming inside a 'spaceship' it was important that we added elements to make it viable and changing the gels in the lighting was beneficial and helped support this. Blue gels and the colour blue is very significance of the sci-fi so adding the gels would help support it.

Sourcing sound effects and music

When it came to decide how we want our background music to sound like it was extremely hard to find a sci-fi ambient sound that will fit with the narrative of our teaser scene, we didn’t want anything too dramatic, but we also didn’t want it to be insignificant. Due to our teaser scene is episode one of the TV show, we wanted the music to be suspenseful, allowing the audience to question what’s going on or what will happen next, so we needed to find a mystery soundtrack. Most importantly, we needed to make sure the soundtrack was royalty free as well, after searching for a while we found this site and was able to find music for both the teaser scene and the title sequence, that hopefully have fitted well within the narrative and genre. The last shot of our teaser scene, is the spaceship taking off from a land, in order to make this shot more realistic we decided it will be ideal to include a sound effect of the sound an engine makes when it takes off, this is the site where we sourced our royalty free sound effect: https://www.zapsplat.com

How we followed the pre-production documents

We made sure we used the pre-production documents very well, the documents we used during the production was the storyboards and the shot list, the reason why this was so important was because it allowed us to know exactly what shot size we planned the footage to be and show the visual image on how we would like the shot size and if the actor got confused as to what they had to do or where they would be positioned we showed them the storyboard so they can get some sort of idea on their positioning. We also made sure we had a spare copy of the script, this would enable us to follow the dialogue the character says so they don’t make any mistakes and if they forgot some words we would be able to assist them in making sure they have said it correctly.  We also made sure we followed our risk assessment carefully to avoid any hazards during the production of the filming.

We made sure we followed our risk assessment. When we set up the camera we ensured that the camera is secured to the tripod, because we had to take shots in different frames and camera angles we were moving the tripod and camera around a lot and if the camera wasn’t secured to the tripod the camera would have slid and fell of the tripod leading the camera to break and an effect to the production. We made sure that we both took equal turns in using the equipment, not only so we both can participate in the production but also to help avoid muscle restraint and give each other a break.

Overall, we managed to not have any risks caused during the production, thankfully, this was done due to following the risk assessment carefully and taking precautions.
