M1: Discuss the issues and risks for the proposed multiple effects

Before our production, my partner and I planned any risks that may occur during the production and post-production process. Here is our risk assessment for the risks of the production as a whole:

However due to the fact this is a production where it will require us to use visual and special effects there are separate risks that apply to that. The main legal and ethical risk that was predicted for the production, is making sure the actors that will be in our film sign the consent forms before the filming takes place. This would not give us a problem later on in the distribution of the product as we will be able to distribute the products anywhere because the actors have given us their consent to appear in front of the camera and allow us to do what we like with the footage we have recorded with them in it.

Due to the fact that we will be using visual effects and the genre for our product is a sci-fi genre, we will need some sort of space background in our title sequence, however due to the fact we cannot actually physically go out into space and take footage of the space we will need to find stock images that will help us with the post-production. We need to make sure that the images we find and decide to use are royalty and copyright free if we wanted to use them. If we do not use royalty free images, and use someone else’s work without permission it would lead us to get a copyright fine and will affect the production as a whole leading the product to be deleted, and due to the fact we are making this for the BBC 3 we need to make sure that everything we use it royalty free and doesn’t give us a legal fine later on in the production or distribution.

In our risk assessment we mentioned that one of our hazards would be the software and how there would be a chance that it may stop working. The two software sites we will be using to edit are Final Cut Pro and Adobe after Effects. Although technology is reliable and there’s a low chance we may lose our work, just to take precautions my partner and I decided that in order to avoid the risk of losing any work, especially for the after effects, we need to make sure we are constantly saving the work in various different locations and if one of the software does fail to co-operate we need to have a back-up software in case this does happen, the back-up software we decided to use was iMovie. The reason why this is an important risk is because we may lose the work at any time and it would lead to a disruption in the production and a delay to submit it to the client in time. Therefore, we need to make sure we take precautions.

Overall, I believe that we would have a successful production due to being aware of any risks that may occur, and we have precautions in case anything bad or severe does happen to our production and post-production process.
