D1: Evaluate the viability of the proposed use of the multiple effects
The client has
explicitly said that my final production must include at least 3 visual effects
and 1 special effect. I believe with the right planning and consideration of
the risks that could be predicted it is achievable to add into my final
production.
The client suggested
that for my special effects I could create a model for the space station, my
team considered this as it would be easier, rather than having to look for
stock images of spaceships, and we are able to plan and make a spaceship from
scratch, so that it links to our storyline and idea for the title sequence. Due
to the fact that we will be making the scale model from scratch, I believe it
will take up some time, but if we had a solid plan on what products we want to
use and how we want the scale model to look like, it would allow us to make the
scale model in an efficient manner and take us a maximum of 2 hours to create
it, with the correct planning. Creating our space station from scratch would be
really beneficial towards our production because it allows us to add in our own
ideas and visual representation on how we want it to look and from there
decide, the significance some parts will have in our storyline than others.
This is easier because finding stock images online is very limited and will be
hard to try and adjust it or create a storyline based on someone else’s
creation. Our spaceship was made out of recycled material, so there is the risk
that it can easily break or get squashed due to the weakness in some products,
such as the items we decided to add at the bottom of the spaceship. However,
although this is the case, it doesn’t affect the scale model as a whole because
the significance isn’t relied on the space landers. After adding the space
background, extra graphic images and composition, I believe that the scale
model will be viable & will look effective to the audience to the point
where they will not notice that the spaceship was made by hand, because of the
believability that they will have on the fact that the spaceship is in space.
Once we finish making
the scale model, we will be filming the spaceship in front of a green screen in
order to cut it out and add a space background, this will be done because we
physically will not be able to go out and film the scale model we have created
in actual space. Once we film the shots and export them in to Adobe After
Effects, I believe that there will be a risk, when it will come to keying out
the green screen, as some of it may be reflected on the scale model, this will
then reduce the viability of the scale model actually being in space, due to
the fact we will be adding the space background that we will find through stock
images, this will be the matte painting of our product as it will look like a
scale background. In order for us to avoid this and allow it to be effective,
we need to make sure the lighting is set up properly, so that any reflection of
the green screen is not shown on the scale model. This will allow keying out
the green screen, much easier and become more effective. Compositing the space
background and the scale model, will allow the product to become more viable
and will make the audience believe that our scale model is actually in space,
rather than them knowing that we used a green screen to add a space background.
Our final visual
effect that we intend on using are graphic effects, these will be included to
show the name of the show which is ‘Approaching Utopia’ and include credits, as
in the brief the client has asked that we must include at least 6 different
credits including an executive producer. There is a risk towards this as it
will be hard to find a font that will fit in to the theme and genre of our
product, and it will be hard to make them appear and flow well with the title
sequence, but after careful consideration and planning we decided that the
credits will appear as something in the scene moves, this will move the
audience away from noticing them they randomly appear, but will allow it to
flow. When it will come to making the name of the show appear we decided that
the spaceship will move across the screen from left to right, showing the
different letters of the show. This would be really easy to do, as we are able
to easily do this in after effects and will allow the audience to believe that
it appears seamlessly.
Overall, I believe
that with careful planning, successful production and amazing editing, me and
my partner will succeed in making our product viable to the audience.
